World Congress of Environmental History 2024 in Oulu, FI: a visual report

On 18-23 August The Eco- and Bioart Lab (EBL) research team had a pleasure to attend the World Congress of Environmental History 2024 taking place in Oulu, FI, under the theme: “Transitions, Transformations and Transdisciplinarity: Histories beyond History”.

On 19th August EBL team members Erich Berger and Marietta Radomska hosted a 2-session panel: “Transdisciplinary arts beyond history: artistic practices as laboratories for rehearsing grief and co-existence in a postnatural world” with 12 fantastic speakers: Tarsh Bates & Susan Hauri-Downing, Antti Tenetz, Tina Mariane Krogh Madsen, Erich Berger, Marietta Radomska, Margherita Pevere, Ewelina Jarosz & Justyna Górowska, Nandita Mahajan, Paula Bertua, and Alexandra Murphy, and the discussant Oron Catts.

The panel invited artists, scholars and other practitioners to examine transdisciplinary artistic practices as laboratories for rehearsing the mourning and grieving for what is lost, and welcoming and making space for the new and yet-to-come in a postnatural and postbiological world.

As the panel convenors, we would like to thank our brilliant speakers and wonderful discussant, as well as fantastic, deeply engaged audience for creating such a one-of-a-kind, inspiring, powerful, and thought-provoking exchange of ideas and creative practices of co-thinking and doing.

Big thanks also go to the congress organisers: you have brought into being a unique hybrid space – in a unique place – to discuss, rethink, and co-create “Transitions, Transformations and Transdisciplinarity: Histories beyond History”!

Below come a few snapshots from our panel and #wceh2024 overall.
